We would like to introduce our 2022 FRC robot, Kaizen!
After naming the robot on Wednesday, we packed her, the workbenches, and team gear into the trailer and headed to Dalton for competition on Thursday. We loaded Kaizen and our equipment in at the Dalton Convention Center, and headed to the hotel for dinner and competition prep.
Friday morning, we headed out early to the Convention Center. Team members commenced with their duties; safety and pit reps talked to other teams about our team and robot. The Business plan, brochures and swag were displayed. Nine matches, a few mishaps and issues, some quick-thinking repairs, safety interviews, a Chairman’s Award presentation, a Dean’s list interview, Business Plan discussion, and many chats with other FRC teams later, Friday was over.
On Saturday we awoke to about three inches of snow and a two-hour delay!
Once competition began again, we won both remaining matches to end the qualifying rounds ranked number 12! Not too bad! After alliance selection, we were chosen for Alliance 7 by Team 6341 (Firestorm Robotics) along with Team 8083 (ALX Robotics). Going up against Alliance 2 was not easy but we gave it our best. We did not advance to the finals but enjoyed cheering on the other teams. Congratulations to Team 1771 (North Gwinnett Robotics), 8736 (The Mechanisms), and 6712 (The Mountaineers)! Well done!
But wait! We didn’t leave empty handed. Our dedicated Business Team created a Business Plan that caught the judge’s attention. We were presented the Entrepreneurship Award which “celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit and recognizes a team which has developed a comprehensive business plan in order to define, manage, and achieve the team’s ongoing objectives. This team displays entrepreneurial enthusiasm as well as demonstrates the vital planning and business skills to ensure a self-sustaining program.”
One final note – one of our students who was nominated for the Dean’s List Award, Anjali, was interviewed and chosen to go forward as one of the Dean’s List finalists. Congratulations, Anjali!
